Our partnership with
PCA:
The Braden River Soccer Club (BRSC) is
proud to announce their partnership with Positive Coach
Alliance (PCA), bringing with it a new commitment to quality soccer
coaching and youth sports programming. This
PCA partnership has been under development since the fall of 2005. It is
the goal of BRSC to certify all recreational and competitive level
coaches as Double Goal Coaches in order to bring national recognition as
a “best in class” soccer club focused not only on soccer skill
development, but to provide a positive character building experience for
our players as well.
The partnership is funded through a grant provided
by the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund of the Manatee Community
Foundation. The grant provides funding for the annual PCA partnership
fees while BRSC provides funding for course materials and training
logistics.
"We recognize that as club leaders,
coaches, and parents of our youth soccer players that we will never get
a chance again to help influence the lives of our youth as we can when
they ARE children and young adults". We welcome your valuable
energy to focus on ‘the big picture as a team and invite you to learn
more about PCA.
Mission of PCA:
Positive Coaching Alliance is a non-profit
organization based at Stanford University (California) created to
transform the culture of youth sports to give all young athletes the
opportunity for a positive, character-building experience. PCA
has three national goals: to replace the "win-at-all-cost" model of
coaching with the "Double-Goal Coach" who wants to win but has a
second, more important, goal of using sports to teach life lessons;
to teach youth sports organization leaders how to create an
organizational culture in which Honoring the Game is the norm; and
to spark and fuel a "social epidemic" of Positive Coaching that will
sweep this country. PCA workshops target the three key
elements of any youth sports organizations:

The BRSC - PCA
Coach of the Year Award:
People learn what an organization
values by seeing what the organization rewards. Many organizations
'only' reward coaches with the best win/loss record (e.g., choosing
the coach whose team has the best win/loss record to coach the
all-star team for example). Being the all-star coach is an honor
that many coaches strive for. Yet, we feel it is important to also
recognize and reward 'positive' coaches who build character in their
players, as well as teach life lessons and skills to those around
them. It is in this spirit that the Braden River Soccer Club is
creating an annual Positive Coaching Award.
