Coaches Code of Conduct
Reprinted from American Youth Soccer Organization

(click here for AYSO Main Page)

  • Enthusiastically support and practice the "Everyone Plays," "Good Sportsmanship" and "Positive Coaching" philosophies.
  • Be reasonable in your demands on a young player's time, energy, enthusiasm and performance on the field.
  • Impress on your players that they must abide by the Laws of the Game at all times.
  • Develop team respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgment of referees and opposing coaches.
  • Ensure that your players' soccer experience is one of fun and enjoyment (winning is only part of it). Players should never be yelled at or ridiculed for making mistakes or losing a game.
  • Set a good example and be generous with your praise when it is deserved. Children need a coach they can respect.
  • Keep informed of sound principles of coaching, growth and child development.
  • Check your equipment and playing facilities. The should meet safety standards and be appropriate for the age and ability of your players.
  • Follow the advice of a physician when determining when and injured child is ready to play again.

Coaches Pre and Post Game procedures
Please download and review the pre and post game procedures Here

Besides your home post game report duties, the home team coach or representative needs to review and complete the following forms:

Home Game Referee Fees:

Junior coaches:  Prior to your first home game, you need to make sure that you have referee fees ready. It is your responsibility to get the fees and pay the refs for home games. Contact Glenn Redden, treasurer by email and tell him what you need. He will send you a check for the total amount. It is then up to you to get the money cashed into the correct denominations per game and per ref.

If you need to reschedule a game make sure you contact the other team, your age group coordinator and vice pres of USA at lest 72 hours ahead of time. If the game is a home game, you also need to contact Mark Puhalovich to cancel the refs. If you don’t contact Mark, your team is fined.

Famous Quotes:

Coach John Wooden, UCLA Basketball
There is very little difference in technical knowledge about the game among most experienced coaches. However, there is a vast difference between coaches in their ability to teach and motivate. You must have the more elusive ability to teach and to motivate.

Coach Vince Lombardi, Green Bay Packers
They call it coaching but it is teaching. You do not just tell them...you show them the reasons.

Coach Red Auerbach, Boston Celtics
Some people believe you win with the five best players, but I found out that you win with the five who fit together best.

Coach Phil Jackson, Chicago Bulls
I realized that the team would take time to evolve into a cohesive whole. My challenge was to be patient. There’s no percentage in trying to push the river or speed the harvest.

Manager Casey Stengel, New York Yankees
Most games are lost, not won.

Manager Alex Ferguson, Manchester United
The lads ran their socks into the ground.
