WELCOME MESSAGE: 

The Braden River Soccer Club thanks you in advance for your consideration to join our club and continue our growth toward excellence in our 2008 – 2009 season.  Please take a few moments to review this packet information as many FAQ’s are identified to help you make an informed decision on joining our club.

PLAYER EVALUATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA:   

A Player wishing to play for Braden River Soccer Club for the 2008/2009 season will be evaluated by observing him/her under the pressures of annual open tryouts, during seasonal practices, scrimmages, and especially games. Only the Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and the Team Coach will confer in matters of player evaluation and selection. Current and potential team members will be evaluated in the 4 components of soccer.  

1. TECHNICAL ABILITY:  Including ball control, ball movement, shooting, passing, keeper skills, etc.

2. TACTICAL UNDERSTANDING AND APPLICATION:  Including player positioning, offensive and defensive formations, decision making, etc.

3. MENTAL DIMENSION:  Including work ethic, positive attitude, ability to learn and contribute to team and club goals, etc.

4. PHYSICAL DIMENSION: Including endurance, speed, reaction and other athletic attributes.

Our Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and the Team Coach make decisions on player selection based solely on their best judgment of the player demonstrating the highest productivity in the 4 components of soccer (above) throughout the game of competitive soccer and skill assessment sessions.   

The Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and the Team Coach will base their decisions on these 4 components and they are responsible to make decisions for the good of Braden River Soccer Club and the respective age-group team. Politics, parents position in the club, friendships, personal relationships, and financial contribution to Braden River Soccer Club or Team will not enter into these decisions.    

• Please Note: Your understanding here is important, for just as players and parents have freedom to evaluate and select a soccer club without bias and with a full understanding of what is expected of them, our Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and the Team Coach expect the same professional courtesy to evaluate and select soccer players as objectively as possible.  We may not always agree on issues as sensitive as player evaluation and selection. Yet, we hope you will respect our attempt to be neutral and objective in these matters.  A primary objective for our staff is to place each player on the most appropriate team that allows for the greatest opportunity for development and enjoyment.

OPEN TRYOUTS DEFINED:

The Braden River Soccer Club open tryouts will be held May 27th – June 3rd (see schedule below for specific age group dates and times) and are open to all Players who meet the age requirements for the Teams in question. Each prospect will be given a fair opportunity to make a team on Braden River Soccer Club. If the Directors of Coaching and the Executive Board deems it necessary, additional late tryouts may be held after initial tryouts to fill teams. 

GOALKEEPER TRYOUTS: Saturday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m.  For all players U11 and older, please attend this session as well as your age group sessions.

The open tryout evaluation will usually consist of 2 sessions. A 3rd date has been set aside for further evaluation if deemed necessary. Keep in mind that besides the open tryout evaluation period; selection of players decisions can be supplemented based on written player evaluations from the previous competitive soccer seasons (practices and especially games), and via our Director of Coaching and Professional Trainer recommendations.  Evaluations and selections will be based solely on how players perform in the 4 Components of the game according to the Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and Team Coach. No other criteria will be used to evaluate Players, and any decisions made by the Directors of Coaching, Professional Trainers and the Team Coach are final. Our club’s Director’s of Coaching, Trainers and Team Coaches will spend significant time and energy in evaluating an estimated 450 players for the 2008-2009 season.  These individuals are dedicated to ensure our club continues to serve our soccer community and your children alike.  During the open tryout evaluation period please give us the same consideration and inform us whether or not you plan to join Braden River Soccer Club if asked to do so post try-outs.

PLAYING UP: 

A Director of Coaching will evaluate any requests for players to play up an age group. Braden River Soccer Club believes that the club, teams and players are generally best served with players playing true age group.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING PRIMARY TEAM TRY OUT REPRESENTATION:

All players trying out for the ‘Primary Team' (e.g., A-team or Maroon Team) are expected to accept an invitation to be a member of that team if selected.  Any player who has no intention if playing on the ‘Primary Team', for any reason, must discuss this with the Director of Coaching and Age Group Head Coach in advance of the tryouts.

SELECTION NOTIFICATION PROCESS: 

• Players selected for the ‘Primary Team' (e.g., A-team or Maroon Team) will be notified by phone within 48 hours of their last tryout. 

• If there is more than one team being formed within an age group, players selected to a second team or third team will be notified within 96 hours following the completion of their last tryout.  

• Those not selected for a team will also be notified by phone.  Players not selected are encouraged to play with our highly rated developmental/recreational program of Braden River Soccer Club.  We often will encourage and invite aspiring competitive players in the recreation program to guest play and practice with their age respective counterpart in the competitive program where appropriate.

TRYOUT APPLICATION FORM:

We invite you to download and complete our tryout application in advance of the first try out date.  This will help improve  the check-in process for the players and organizers.   

AGE GUIDELINES FOR 2008-2009 SEASON:

We follow the FYSA August 1st cut off month/day for determining a players "Season Age".   To find out a player's seasonal age, click the (U Age Calculator) and input the date of birth to see the player's age division. You can also refer to the 'Age Group' table below.
